Description
Closed between the Pointe du Bon Renaud to the west and the Pointe Prime to the east, the Anse du Bon Renaud is one of the most famous and well known bays on the island of Porquerolles.
This bay is one of the few places on the island to be sheltered not only from southerly winds and from those coming from the south, but also from the Mistral. However, it is always good to pay attention to possible gusts of wind, especially for those who have decided to give founded here to spend the night. The seabed in case of strong winds can lose some of its grip, and the boats can slide with respect to their location, with a risk of collision with other vessels.
The bay has a fairly wide beach, the Plage de l'Argent, a fine and very clear sandy expanse, thanks to the remarkable percentage of white quartz. It is one of the most famous and popular beaches of the island: the presence of a snack bar, showers, toilets, a place of first aid and a security service in the summer make it suitable for families with small children. In addition, it enjoys an optimal position, only one kilometer east of the harbor, and is the only beach on the island to offer its bathers the opportunity to rent equipment and inflatable mattresses.
The Argentine beach was the first island in Porquerolles to be equipped to allow access to disabled people.
Access for those coming from the harbor area is pleasant and quite short, about fifteen minutes walk.
From the Bon Renaud bay you can enjoy a magnificent view of the part of the island, the plage de Notre Dame and the harbor. Those who underwater diving, due to the variety of seabed rich in varied flora and fauna, appreciate also the haven.
Pointe du Bon Renaud houses a 19th century military fort.
Porquerolles is part of the Parc National de Port Cros, an institution created to protect the valuable ecosystem of the islands of Hyères, and Sanctuaire Pelagos, an entity created in cooperation between France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco for the protection of cetaceans living in the Mediterranean Sea.
