Description

Cala Del Moro is located about 6 km away from Santanyi, South East of Majorca, in a small cove surrounded by a naturally protected area, properties that make it a real paradise. Considered by many people the most beautiful beach of the island, it is long around 30 meters, but this amount varies depending on the frequent storms that affect the area and often they end up eroding and reducing shoreline.

Cala Del Moro has a soft and white sand and a turquoise crystalline sea, and is also crossed by high cliffs that border it on both sides. It is a very popular beach in the district of Santanyi and for this reason; it is quite crowded in the summer, especially on weekends.

There are no restaurants right on the beach; in return, it is an ideal place where to practice diving and snorkeling.

The cave is particularly small and insidious, so the anchoring near the harbor is not recommended for it could be dangerous. However, keeping a safe distance, you can stop for a swim at anchor a few hours. The wavy way that characterizes is constant, so it is always advisable to pay the maximum attention to the boat. Although slightly uncomfortable as a destination, its wild and almost sublime appearance are worth the visit and, more important, provide a wonderful bath.

The municipality of Santanyí is located in the south-east of Majorca, and Cap de ses Salines is the southernmost island territory, 150 kilometers from Africa (North African pirates attacked between the 14th and 17th centuries). The origin of its name is uncertain. King Jaume II appointed it as a village in the year 1300.

Its landscape is taking place between the earth and the sea, combining the cultivated without irrigation to the natural vegetation. This ecological and ethnographic value made that in 1992 the Government of the Balearic Islands declared Mondragó (782 hectares) Natural Park. The northern area includes the last reliefs of Serres de Llevant (Penya Bosca, 280 meters in height) and in the southern extends a marina (3,5 kilometers towards the interior) and a shoreline 35 kilometers irrigated by streams, including S'Estany de ses Gambes (pond of 41 hectares) and Pontàs (arch of emerging rock).

Since the 1950s, tourism began in this town. This incremented the commerce and the construction. Famous are mares quarries, gravel and pedra de Santanyí   (used since the Islamic period and incorporated in the most important historical buildings of Majorca, Almudaina, Castell De Bellver, Llotja or Seu, and exported to Catalonia, France and Italy).

The Cultural wealth of the place will be known by visiting es Rafals des Porcs, Son Danús, Can Jordi, churches of Sant Andreu, Roser y Calonge, Porta Murada, Aljub, Abeurador, Can Clar, towers of Bossa and d'en Beu or Fortí. The municipality has a total of 19 beaches, all equally stunning.

Santanyi has recently become a major cultural center in Majorca, especially in the field of painting, music and poetry, to the point that, literary investigator Jaume Vidal Alcover, professor of the Universidad de Tarragona, arrived to talk about the school of poetry of Santañy, which influenced all the poetry of the island.
