Varques Bay 

The Varques Bay is 12 km far from the town of Levante in Porto Cristo. This beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, yet pristine and virgin, perfect for escape from the maritime traffic and the crowded tourism that characterize the popular Mallorca. It is the result of a sea entrance in rectangular shape, whose natural dams are low height necks and are crowned with pines and low cliffs. The eastern coast is divided into two paradisiacal and quiet small arenas, which form two bays, separated by one hundred and fifty meters of sharp rocks.

The west hiden is smaller than the eastern. The fine white sand is surrounded by a rocky amphitheater, from the top of which it is possible to observe the outlet of the stream that originated it. Instead, the oriental cave is characterized by an exquisite and magnificent pine forest invading the beach, and by a real rocky spectacle: you can admire a natural arch and visit an immense cave.

The best option to access it is the sea. Underwater conditions are suitable for boat anchoring; it is more than six meters deep, 200 meters from the shore on a sandy bottom covered by crystalline water. At 3.6 nautical miles, there is the nearest marina, Porto Cristo Harbor. The arrival by land is more difficult than that by sea, inconvenience that explains the low turnout of bathers, which mainly are residents. Small but important warning: some people practice nudism even if it is forbidden.

In addition, in this cove from the crystalline waters, there are several caves and underwater tunnels greatly appreciated by speleologists; there are nearly 500 meters of path, along which it is also possible bathing. The cave is also known because from some years, cows of a nearby farm are visiting it, element that animates the interest and curiosity of its visitors,

Cala Varques is located in the municipal area of Manacor, on the east coast of the island. Its heterogeneous landscape is characterized by a high coastline, numerous caves, but especially for the mysterious marine caves: among which the most popular are the caves of Hams and Drac. In the hinterland, however, stretches of the Serres de Llevant mountain range are divided into two areas from a plain. In these flat areas, dominate plantations such as wild olive trees and pines, typical flora of the island of Majorca.

One traditional activity of the island is jewelry (manufacture and sale of imitation pearls). Here there is also carpentry, intensive agriculture and fishing, while since 1970, the dominant occupations of the furniture industry (manufacture and marketing of furniture and construction equipment) starts along with tourism and other commercial activities.

The cultural richness of this municipality is striking; it is possible to know it along its 101 archaeological fields. It is strongly advised to visit the village of Talaiotis s'Hospitalet Vell, to know the history of the prototype Majorcan and Minorchine civilizations. Other recommended sites are the cave of s'Homonet, the early Christian basilica of Son Peretó and the Convent of San Vincenzo Ferrer.

Manacor is worldwide known thanks to the tennis player Rafael Nadal. The town is also famous for its equine tradition and chivalry: famous are their horses and trotting races that take place every year at the Municipal Hippodrome.
