Description
Situated along the Amalfi Coast, between Punta Salicerchio and Punta dello Scarpariello, the port of Maiori consists of an inner dock and an outer one.
From May to September, it is enriched with some additional floating piers, run by some local cooperatives supervised by the City Hall of Maiori, for small and medium boats.
5 mooring places are reserved for transiting boats which can't stop for more than 48 hours.
The port is well-sheltered from north-east and northerly wind but entering it can be difficult, if not little recommended, in case of sirocco.
The port offers a car parking and a waste collection service.
Yachtsmen can drop the achor in the anchorage near the port, both west and east of it, near the so-called Horse Bay.
In summer, the beach of the port is equipped with some beach resorts and restaurants, while the surroundings offers a plurality of coffee bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
Maiori hosts one among the largest beaches of Amalfi Coast, split into two different areas by the mouth of a river and some little stones which make it accessible for anyone. Here, you can rent
a sun bed or a beach umbrella at the local beach resorts.
As an alternative, you can stay in the free zone of the beach.
The surroundings offers several picturesque grottos and coves, easily reachable by boat. Among them, there are Horse Bay, with its small beach and well-crowded in summer, and Pandora Grotto, characterized by the presence of stalactites and stalagmites and a clear-turkey water.
Maiori is the ideal starting point to sail to the numerous destinations within the Gulf of Naples and Salerno: Amalfi, for example, is just 2 miles far, while Sorrento and Naples are 22 and 34 miles distant.
The centre of Maiori is small and nice and hosts the remains of some ancient fortresses and towers which prove the Medieval past of the city.
Through a plesant walk amongst stairways and terracings, visitors can enjoy an excursion to Falerzio Mountain. In a blur of Mediterranean vegetation, chestnut forests and evergreen plants, the path leads to the retreat dedicated to Madonna dell'Avvocata (Protectress), a place which offers a wonderful view on the coast.
