Description
Situated at the bottom of the namesake anchoring post, the Port Départemental de Cassis is one among the last eastern anchorages of Cote d'Azur.
Approaching the port is easy even at night thanks to a white-light lighthouse placed in the middle of the bay, just on the right of the big cliffs. The port is well-sheltered from almost all winds, especially from mistral. On the contrary, it doesn't offer a good shelter against south and south-east winds. The latter can make even the access to the port very hard.
The berths reserved for transiting travellers are 25 and they are located along some piers within the port basin. Boaters can also drop the anchor within the anchoring post. The port is popular and very crowded, especially in summer.
As an alternative, boaters can set course to west - in the direction of Marseille - and reach the Calanque de Port Miou, a natural bay, less crowded in summer than the port of Cassis, which provides yachtsmen with 400 berths.
The port offers a wide range of services, including an area reserved for separate waste collection and a system for the collection of both used oils and sewage coming from docked boats. A sailing school, a shipyard, a laundry and several food courts complete the range of services offered. The city centre and its stores are just a few kilometres away.
Yachtsmen landing in the port of Cassis will certainly enjoy the beauty of the place, framed by picturesque coloured buildings and romantic roof gardens.
Just behind the port raises Plage de la Grande Mer, a large municipal beach made of gravel and sand and equipped with a small parking and some restaurants with a wonderful view on Cassis Castle.
The typically Provençal atmosphere makes Cassis a very picturesque place, particularly appreciated by tourists. The city is part of the Parc National des Calanques, a protected reserve specifically created in order to preserve the delicate ecosystem, fauna and flora of the region.
Cassis is the ideal starting point to reach La Ciotat, the several surrounding bays and Marseille.
The Port Départemental de Cassis raises halfway between Cote d'Azur and Cote Bleue, so it allows its guests to enjoy a strategically central position.
