Trogir  

If you are sailing along the eastern part of the central Adriatic you absolutely must stop at Trogir, a small town of 8,000 inhabitants in the heart of Dalmatia, registered in the Unesco Heritage. Trogir is located on two natural islands in the middle of the canal between the Dalmatian coast and the island of Čiovo and is connected to the mainland with two bridges. The style of the buildings is typically medieval and there are small cobblestone streets, many churches belonging to different cultures and religions, a castle and a quaint old town surrounded by walls.

Its strategic location made Trogir a city with a long history, both the Greeks first and then the Romans used the port as a commercial center, especially for the nearby production of high quality white marble. The influence of Venice was then very strong and is still visible today in construction and in the presence of the lions of St. Mark in the city. The monument considered of greater importance is the church of San Lorenzo, and there is the opportunity to visit a city museum.

The moorings available are essentially two:

- Directly along the quay or even in the center opposite the old town, with the possibility to enjoy electricity and running water. Being a renowned tourist resort the price for these moorings is clearly high. For those who want to opt for this choice, it is advisable to stay in the east because on the other side there is always a lot of tourist movement both on land and on boats in the water and all summer offers sightseeing tours to 'Island of Čiovo”.

- Alternatively, there is an ACI marina on the other side of the canal, a taxi service available all day and evening running between the marina and the center of Trogir. The marina has 180 berths in the water (maximum yachts up to 18 Mt) and 60 ground, 9 ton cranes. The services are varied, including technical assistance, a fuel distributor, charter agencies and a restaurant. On Saturdays and Sundays in high season it is not easy to find a mooring. The entrance to the harbor from the west is the best (from the east there is the bridge that is low enough), orient yourself with the flashing light bulb of Čubrijan tip.

You may also anchor out of the historic center clearly avoiding the transit area, even here, you pay and the area is very busy. In addition, in the case of wind from the west in the channel, a strong enough current can rise up to 3 knots and create anchoring difficulties.

Trogir is a stop not to be missed for its beauty and its historic value. There are services  but the prices are high and there is a lot of tourist traffic. Near the town (just under a mile) you will find sandy and pebble Pantan placed on the mouth of the river. The waters are blue and crystalline, behind a typical Mediterranean pine forest. Near Trogir there is the airport of Split and the town is located along the air corridor, during the night is respected the silence time but this is a further confirmation of how the area is not ideal for a sailor. Who love peace Avoid getting to Trogir on weekends.

Trogir is only 20 kilometers away from Split and between the two locations there are several berths less popular and at lower prices. Consider staying in these areas especially if you are passing by in August, the towns of Split and Trogir are connected by a bus service.
