Description

Salina is one of the Aeolian Islands in the province of Messina, Sicily. After Lipari, it is the second largest island of the archipelago and measures about 26 km².

Salina is a rocky island with two dormant volcanoes. Its economy is mainly based on tourism and grapes cultivation. The island has become famous with Massimo Troisi's "The Postman" movie (1994).

Aeolian Island are highly appreciated by sea lovers and the second largest port on Salina Isand is the marina of Rinella. Equipped with a 100-metre-long quay on the East, specifically reserved for transiting recreational boats and liners, the marina also includes a well-sheltered multi-buoy mooring berth, offering an efficient 24h/24 sea taxi service.

When entering the port, yachtsmen are required to pay attention to an insidious shoal located just at the entrance of the dock. The seabed is sandy and yachtsmen can drop the anchor even north of the stack of Punta del Perciato.

The stack is an icon of Aeolian Islands and one among the most beautiful places of the archipelago. It's a real natural arch perched in the volcanic rock and one among the most beautiful places where to dive.

In the shoal of Punta Perciato, scuba divers can in fact admire posidonia meadows, sea sponges and any kind of fish.

The Salina Natural Park was founded in 1980, followed by the Reserve of the two Mountains in 1981. Rinella is a fishing village and offers a very particular beach made of pebbles and black sand.

In the marina, there are many tufa grottos, once used by fishermen as boat shelters.

Around the quay, sea bottoms reach a maximum depth of 4 metres.

Many volcanic phenomica still remain on the Aeolian Island, such as fumaroles and emissions of gas and vapours.

Rinella is a well-equipped village with many entertainment opportunities and the second most important port of Salina Island after Santa Marina Salina.
